Go ahead and laugh at me - I don't care! I was working with some jalapenos today which I knew a few were going to be hot by their smell. Just breathing the fumes off a few while de-seeding and de-veining gives me a sore throat for hours. So here was my battle gear and it worked!

Thats great...I have learnedover the years to wear protection. Gloves are the best because it never fails no maqtter how well you wash your hands you always find out there is more there when you have your hand on the important stuff.

Excellent resolution to the problem. What canisters were you using in the respirator?
-
If you are that sensitive to cutting them, I really cannot imagine that you want to eat them.
If it works it's great.
I usually do not have problems, but I use gloves for habaneros. -
They are AOSafety brand R51HE-P100 cartridges designed for organic vapors and P100 particulate with a 99.97% efficiency. I still need it when I cut cedar for instance in my workshop in spite of having a central vacuum attached to my stationary power tools plus running a Jet brand air filtration. If I don't use all I pay the price for a week! I've tried 3M masks over the years when cutting jalapenos with mixed success, but this thing works. Only problem is my dog barks at me when I have it on - which made me think maybe he's just laughing - not barking which prompted my subject topic!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I learned a lesson with jalapeno peppers a few weeks ago. Probably won't dump the stems/seeds in the disposal again! I got a breath of pure fire - literally took my breath away. -
I touched my lip and my mouth got numb...
i'll wear gloves next time. :ermm: Tim -
You handsome devil, you!
Can't hide it even behind a gas mask. It's a curse, I guess, huh?

I did move it outside!

In that photo, it looks like you are surrendering to the peppers. Never give in! :-)The Naked Whiz

I had mine on yesterday...annual training and fit-testing at work. Both the full-face purifying respirator, and the SCBA.
I burned my fingers last week, working with peppers. I had about 10 pounds to process, and started with the bells and mild chiles first. When I got to the habaneros, I put gloves on, but the damage was done. I think the culprit were the mis-identified red peppers, that I thought were supposed to be sweet red roasting peppers...turns out they're chiles, and pretty hot. After roasting, peeling and bagging a dozen of them, my fingers were burning. When I woke up the next morning and got in the shower, the hot shower water was very painful...just like a bad sunburn. You'll get no mockery from me for being cautious.
See you in just over a week! You weren't prepping peppers for Eggwegofest, were you? That would be something to look forward to.
