I really don't want to plunk down the $$$ for a thermapen, but its better than plunking down $12 or so for a Polder which seems to give up after only a few meals.
Are Thermapens built to last, assuming that I take reasonable care of it?

Don't know. My $16 Polder instant read is over 5 years old. Waterproof, dishwasher proof, anti-bacterial sleeve and still on the original battery. Pretty good I think.

I have dropped mine on concrete 3 times in the 2 years I have had it. It still calibrates perfectly, and displays as quickly as when brand new. I am still on the original battery. it is by far the number one Egg/Cooking accessory that I own.

ive got a couple old models and the newer water resistant one. the older ones wont hold up to a washing, even with a damp sponge. they do last a long time if you can keep it away from those that have that need to wash itfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
