so.. is there an easy way to open the bag of lump by just pulling on one of the ends of the sewn top?
or do you just take a knife and go at it?

Looking at the back of the back, cut the strings/knot on the left side. Then pull the loose ends...one of them will unzip the top.

yes, and yes

Isn't the back of the back the front?

kind of like figuring out how to undo the girlfriend's bra the first time?XL Walled Lake, MI

The bra was easy compared to the charcoal bag. I'm convinced that the secret is closely guarded and only revealed in a secret ceremony following an eggfest.

You must stand in front of the bag, reach around back and try to unhook it. :PFred V. Smyrna,Ga.

I absolutely agree with that! There have been numerous threads here about this subject (lump bags, not bras
). Some even with pics. I still have trouble more often than not. A single edge razor blade is your friend!
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Fidel is right, sort of. Place the bag between your legs [or your girlfriends if you are lucky] with the single strand to your/her right. Cut the knot on what is now the front end [back of the back, or whatever :P ]and pull on the threads on both sides. Most [can you say "seldom/"] of the time the threads will come off like you wished that bra would have, and you will get almost the same thrill [Not really, at least I hope not], other times you will cut back a little further, and further, until you reach for your trusty hedge trimmer or whatever! :woohoo:
Seriously, starting from the end that is front when you have the single thread on your right is the key, that pulls the stitches out the way they were sewn in, but it can be a pain

If you will notice the string on one side is single and the other side is multiple. The correct side to start to unravel the string is when the single strand is facing you you start at the right hand side. It will take some practice but once you do it a few times it will be easy. Bucky Buckshot

Works for me 1 out of 10 times

Grab your ash tool and whack it. Opens just fine.

I'm fond of the knife, much faster.

I am far too deeply afflicted with OCD to have an uneven opening like that staring me in the face every time Igo to reload the lump.
