beer butt chicken

I wanna do a beer butt for chicken for supper
Is the preferd method direct or indirect???
I usualy do em at about 350 indirect over a plate setter and drip pan
cnat remember for how long but untill they are done
And another question
I have never injected any thing that I hav cooked on the egg
can anyone suggest a good solution for the chicken and maybe for my pig shoulder
