So my friend just picked up the three cast iron frying pans that Harbor Freight is selling ( http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=44707 ). Does this stuff need to be seasoned before it is used, and if so, how do you do it?

One says to never use vegetable oil, the other says to use it...

I can tell you from the past six months of experience that lard works better than vegetable oil. When I cook in my cast iron skillet with lard the eggs just slip over. When I tried veg oil (I ran out of lard) the eggs started sticking on the second cook. I now stick with lard and don't have any trouble.
