Ribs for the first time

I am planning on doing ribs tonight for the first time. I know they should slow cook for about 5 hours but I just have a few stupid questions. I bought a plate setter yesterday and don't know if I should put it right side up or upside down. Also, how long do you wait before you put the plate setter on after you start the lump? What do you use to put the plate setter in and out of the egg? And finally, should I put the ribs directly on the grid with a drip pan below or should I put them in a v-rack and stand them up sideways. I am new to the BGE so I need a lot of help. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks, Katie

Plate sett goes in legs up. It will sit directly on the fire ring. Put the drip pan on the plate setter, then the grid on top of the legs of the plate setter. I like to lay the ribs flat, bone side down.
Light the lump, put the plate setter in, set your vents for about 250*, then walk away. Give it 45-60 minutes to stabilize and burn cleanly, then add your ribs if your temp is set where you want it.
You should need to take the plate setter out of the egg while it is still hot. If you ever do - I use welding gloves or fireplace gloves. Make sure you have a place to sit it before you grab it. Nothing worse than a hot piece of ceramic in your hand and nowhere safe to set it down. -
I found a picture that shows a setup like I described.
This one has 3 racks, using a grid extender.
