Well I finally made the big purchase. Just ordered my BGE. Now I need to learn to cook with it.

What are the must have accessories?

congrats, you will have a great time learning. This site is amazing. People seem to love to help out.

  • Welcome to the Cult!
1st Eggcessory: a large computer screen 'cause there is a whole lot of reading to do!!
Do the reading and many of your known and unknown questions will be answered -- and you will enjoy the BGE right from the start B)

check out the Naked Whiz, WessB, Grandpas Grub, and Playing with Smoke and Fire (Thiredyd's) sites. Do a search on this site for them to get familiar with things.

I would get the adjustable rig or the platesetter first.

I just did a search (very useful tool when learning) on "must have accessories" and came up with 93 hits. This very question comes up often - good luck with the new egg, and enjoy belonging to the cult! We look forward to seeing your pics and posts! :)
  • Welcome Eggcellent,

Ask questions, join in with experiences and ENJOY.

Ps. Start off small - - burgers - chicken. Practice temperature control not fiddling.

If your looking you're not cooking.

  • According to my wife I sure did join a cult, and she has been eating better B), As far as must have eggsesories, use my plate setter all of the time, as well as a remote thermometer such as the Maverick ET-73 or similar.

 Yes you did and welcome to Egg-land. :)

I have to agree that a plate setter and/or thermapen/remote thermometer are first.

    Good Luck,

    Post pictures if you can

I am also fairly new to the egg, so I cannot really answer your question on accessories, but I CAN answer your question "Did I join a cult?"

After only a week with my very own gros oeuf vert, I can say that, YES, you have.
  • Go to an eggfest and you will really be addicted.

Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 6 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

There are ways to get around the plate setter, but I have one and use it constantly. To me its the first must have.
