Ribs for kids

We have a deal with the next door neighbors that they watch our kids and we go out and vice versa once a month. Last night was our turn to watch the kids. We picked up a few extras along the way and it turned into a regular party. I served ribs.
A whole cutting board (4 square feet) full of them.
Seasoned with DP
Stuffed into the egg and cooked 7 - 1 - 1/2 ( and they could have cooked a little longer.
One big pile of ribs.
Nice and juicy
Served with asparagus rafts, doused in lemon juice, olive oil and DP Pineapple Head. These worked better than I had hoped for, but watch out if you try them this way the rafts are a little unstable.
The hoard paying guitar hero and starting on the potato salad.
The ribs, salad and asparagus were extremely tasty. A successful party all around.

That looks like it was fun, Doug. I'm sure the kids enjoyed it. Nice dinner.
FaithHappily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!
3 Large, 1 Small, 1 well-used Mini -
That looks great Doug!
I especially like the asparagus rafts!
They must have been a big hit with the kids!
Michael -
Thanks Mike,
They especially liked when they exploded.
Doug -
Thanks Faith. It was fun and the kids more or less handled themselves. We drank too much wine in the front room. Good party.
Doug -
With food like that you can watch me anytime :woohoo:
-
Ha! Ha!
I'll have to convince one of the kids to have a pirate theme B-DAY and try that!
Michael -
Pat you are always welcome. Stop by any time...

Nice looking ribs! Is that foil on a plate setter? Do you use foil just to keep it cleaner?
-
There is a drip pan on the plate setter, I use foil on that to increase the indirect heating area (force all the heat around the outside) and to ease cleanup.

Looks like a very fun time! What a great babysitter you are. I think you had more fun and a better meal than the parents who went out!
What's with the raft thing? Is that something you got from this board and I missed the info on? It sure looks interesting. Can you explain how it works and the concept?
The girl in the grey t-shirt with the brown pony tail looks like she's licking her plate. With a meal like that, I would have been licking my plate! -
"The girl in the grey t-shirt with the brown pony tail" is the only kid in that room that is mine, the plate licking is apparently genetic. :ermm:
Normally asparagus rafts are skewered on two skewers, which works well, but takes some time. I had a lot to do so I did these with two skewers under and one on top the one on each end bent so it was under the bottom two and over the top two. It's under some force and if you let any of the cross skewers slip past the end skewers it explodes, but if you're careful its quick and easy.

Doug you sure know how to throw a party!
Great looking food and it looks like the kids hhad a good time too! -
Thanks Max. How's the eggin' out there where they take there food seriously?

It was a rough winter :(
I need to do a better set-up for next winter. I already have something planned so should be better! But with the weather we've been having snows almost all gone and the egg...well... hehehe she's fired up and ready to go ! -
Great looking cook and a great workout for the egg.
Also looks like a nice bunch of kids.
Glad you had a great time.

Hey Doug, I was wondering, with food like that, could you watch "us"while our kids go out?
-
What a great idea! Wish we would have thought of that when our girls were young. Looks like they had fun. Definitely good eats!! Bet the parents were jealous.
-
Doug,
That is one mess o' ribs. Did they leave greasy fingerprints on everything?

Nice Doug. I can see the parents on their tippy toes looking over your shoulder to see what the kids will be eating and wishing they just stayed put.
-
Looks like the parents lost out on this deal. Great idea.
-
Thanks GG.
It was fun, I would do it again.
Doug -
Like I told Pat, you are welcome any time.
Doug -
As the parents came in we coralled them in the front and had some drinks. We went through 7 bottles of wine, all in all a great night.
Doug -
Not sure if they did, but I certainly did...
Doug -
Thanks Frank
Might do that cook again and have the parents over too for the whole thing and not just the wine 'til the wee hours part....
Doug -
Thanks Bruce
See you at OKC?
Doug -
   Doug you are great!!!!Honestly what a lucky bunch of neighbours kids....Bien hecho mi amigo
