Calibrated New Egg Thermometer

Yesterday I decided to check the accuracy of the thermometer on my brand new Large. After plugging in my BP and altitude at the Whiz's website, one boiling pot of water later I discovered the thermometer was running 5 degrees cooler than what it should be.
Does that sound right for essentially a brand new unit?
I went ahead and re calibrated, but I'm just not sure it passes the smell test.

sounds about normal it is really easy to knock them out of calibration and 5 degrees is really nothing to worry about unless you are ocd...

Oh yeah - OCD. At least until the alcohol takes affect. Sweet, sweet beer...

My new egg was off 70 degrees, calibrated it and good to go now

Ya just never know..that's why it's always best to check em periodically...

70 degrees? Holy cow!
Yup, I guess this is something I need to do every now and then. -
not a bad idea to check now and then - after eggperience you'll have a gut feeling when it has gotten off. OTOH the best thing is to remove that metal spring inside the dome and pitch it! It grabs the probe so tight that if you were to bump or turn the face of the thermometer it can throw it off kilter again. You don't need that clip - gravity keeps the thermometer in place.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.
