You can see all the smoke leaking from the underside of the daisy wheel. Does this look normal to you. It does not site flush and has some wobble as you can see..

I've seen some guys on here that will take some extra gasket and mount it inside the DW to tighten the fit and secure. This will also put a stop to alot or all of the lost smoke.
-
Is there a guru blowing air in the bottom?
-
No Guru. Just Bad smoke after initial light up. But it leaks none the less.
-
I am not sure if you saw Weekend Warriors post to you below, however Mark did email you with some solutions.
You should really take advantage of the advice offered.

Give the gasket a try if you have some extra...or go buy you a roll of it and keep the rest for your first gasket replace.
-
Kent.
Thanks for playing big brother to Mark. I did email him directly. -
If folks having this problem will contact BGE a gasket strip will be sent to them.

This post was only to confirm that the problem is the one suggested by Mark. I did not want to just submit a trouble ticket without first verifying that I have the issue myself.
-
Not playing big brother to mark, just trying to make sure you get your problem resolved. Mark had gone to some effort to resolve this problem. I had forgot about that past information and Mark, off line, reminded me.
Check your email.

I wasn't criticizing your post at all. It was good to see the smoke leak and wobble.
As far as the leak goes, if you could hold a 250° dome, which you probably can, there isn't much of a problem.
However the wobble is a different situation. I have never seen a DFMT wobble like that.

Kent,
Thank you for your help. -
SmokinSoCal,
I have one large that has that issue. I had one several years ago that did the same thing. I wrapped the ceramic with stove gasket and it solidified the mate up. I had no issue with a bit of smoke but the daisy would fall off if I opened it too abruptly. I didn't see Mark's post but you can either wrap the ceramic exhaust chute or gasket the top surface of the ceramic. Either will work.

I know my daisy wheel leaks too, but not nearly as much. When I watched the video, I was amazed at the amount of smoke, but if this is startup smoke the amount makes sense.
I have been keeping the daisy wheel off or top open during initial.VOC burn off since I want to get rid of the bad smoke ASAP. Therefore, maybe smoke leak is not really an issue for you.
On the other hand, a wobbly daisy is likely to fall off. That seems like the real issue here. Try turning daisy so the screw is at the front. If that does not work, try the gasket fix. -
Thanks everyone, I have contacted BGE and am awaiting their reply. I will post an update. I appreciate everyones advice and will see what my options are.
Thanks in advance -
That's what I was thinking. If I had that much blowing, it would be coming out from the sides also.
-
i would put that on my list of things to never fixfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
-
I wouldn't worry about it, it isn't going to affect your cooking. Look at how much mine leaks and it still cook just fine. -RP

it'
s jetting out like crazy. you'd never have that much smoke coming out of the egg except at start-up.
see how the smoke is coming out under pressure? the daisy is closed more than it needs to be and the smoke is finding it's way out.
remember that the daisy is a recent invention in the egg's history. the entire system can be contolled by the lower vent.
in your video, the loewr vent seems like it is wide open, and the diasy is trying to restrict flow because it is closed more than the lower vent is. so the smoke is trying to find its way out, under pressure.
not sure why it's a problem, really. -
Mine wobbled and leaked smoke.I put some gasket material inside the daisy wheel and it took care of it.
-
I didn't receive your mail. If you would like to re-send, it's mnixon(at)cit-hadley.com although it seems you are taking appropriate steps to getting your issue resolved.
Mark -
My newer large egg had the same daisy wobble. With a die grinder I ground out the inside of the cast iron vent and I also shortened the daisy rim to get the daisy to sit down flush onto the dome vent.
The gasket trick is a quicker fix. There are three ways to skin a cat.
Good luck.
