I just picked up a bunch of Shagbark...friends down in CT neglected to tell me the pet store they go to is called Shagbark Farm and Pet Supply....I just noticed after 5+ years of driving to their house the road on the way in is lined with these things, so we took a walk in the woods this weekend and a few pulls later....
Anyway, I've never used it and was wondering...how strong is it...I think you have mentioned it was sweet...I'm thinking anything is ok with it, but do you break it up and use about the same amount as you would with chips?

with you being in MA you probably already know this, but besides using the bark for smoke are you aware that people actually make a very fine syrup boiling down that shag bark?

i use it in about the same amount that you would chips. hard to say exactly.
it's good stuff. unbelievably sweet -
I wasn't...wife's cousin has a maple syrup operation in VT. Lucky enough to get about a 1/2 gallon at a time...for free....
Will have to google the shag bark syrup....
