I have a 5qt Lodge Do and I am picking up an small BGE next weekend! Will the 5qt fit or should I order the 3qt? They look like they are the same size around but the 5qt is taller. What size do the small owners out there use?

Seth,
Are you and Glenda going to Oswego next weekend?Re-gasketing America one yard at a time. -
Hey Ron,
No we are not going to Eggwegofest, but we are going to Smoking in the Ozarks! We wanted to get annother camping trip in so we are pulling the camper down to Lake of the Ozarks on Friday and getting up early and driving to Springfield early Sat.
By the way I was going to ask you how you prepped the flower pot for the monkey bread you did at the peoria Fest. Did you season it? How did you plug the hole in the bottom? -
The 5 qt pot is 10 1/4" inches wide. but with the handles it is 12 and 3/4".
-
Should fit fine. how tall tall?
-
It will fit. I use my 4qt on the small often with room to spare, both in dia and height.
-
Sorry, height would help It is 4 1/2" high.
-
Thanks! I am glad I only need the 5qt!

You'll have to put the platesetter feet on the fire box, but it'll fit. Should still have room to put the little green feet under the DO if you wanted an air space. Assuming the DO doesn't have it's own feet.
That's also assuming you'll be doing it indirect. :ermm:
Doesn't everyone? -
To season a new clay pot, wash and dry it thoroughly. Then brush the entire pot inside and outside with veggie oil. Place on a sheet of foil on a cookie sheet in a cold oven and bring oven up to 400 degrees. Shut off oven and allow to cool in the oven. Repeat this procedure two more times.
As for plugging the hole I just take a drinking glass of the proper diameter and cut a disc out of a slice of bread in order to cover the inside bottom. That also makes clean up easier.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time. -
Do you set it on your platesetter?
-
Thanks Ron. I think I am going to give that a try.

I just emailed you the whole recipe if you want it.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.
