Which one of the Permatex gasket sealants was recommended on this forum several days ago? Thanks.

Permatex Ultra Copper seems to be the most popular. HTH

    Or Ultra Copper
  • Is this used in place of the felt or under a new piece of felt?
  • It is normaly used to glue on a NOMEX gasket to the egg. I did both my large and mini with nomex and ultra copper worked AWESOME!

    just to be a pain...

BGE HQ advises using super-77 (by 3m) to adhere the nomex.

i know that BGE doesn't want us using rutlands, but i don't believe they've weighed in on the permatex. of course, their not weighing in is basically the same as their not endorsing it.
  • About three weeks ago, I talked to someone at HQ and told them of my positive experiences using Permatex 26B. They were apparently not aware of using RTV silicone sealant as an adhesive at that time and definitely did not advise against using it.

they haven't been paying attention then, since it's been talked about on the forum for the past, i dunno, six years at least. hahaha anyway, i cannot imagine that in all the years of R&D and gasket/adhesive experiments John hasn't tried high temp silicone... doesn't make any sense.

contrary to popular thought, i don't think they really keep tabs on things here.

here's ranger ray talking about how he made his gasket ENTIRELY out of the stuff, in 2003.

before that, folks were using it to adhere loose gaskets, rutlands, etc.
