I figured I open up the forum to at least 3-4 of these questions this morning.

Here are the facts: boston butt.dome temp was at 150 when I got up to check it. dome was at 230 30-45 min prior. internal butt temp was 134.

pulled butt of placed in oven to keep warm while I started the fire back. I'm back up and running. my opinion is that I should be fine.

    I think your fine.
  • I don't know. how long was the butt on before you popped it in the oven?

I'm just responding to the precipitous temperature drop- close to 100 degrees in 1/2 hour. at 250 I think I'd have to remove the platesetter, close the vent and the rain cap in order to get it to drop that fast.

This morning mine was on 13.5 hours and only up to 153.
I goosed the fire, got it back to 250 and 1/2 hour later it was still at 153.
  • thanks larry

yb- 4hrs. I've had problems with temp control all night.

Been there done that. I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not a doctor, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
    That's always a worry...

    Take a look at this.
Food Cooking Temperatures (when it’s done)

You are the one that is going to have to make the decision.
