Condensation in the dome therm??

I have some condensation in the (stock BGE) dome therm. I can still read it, but you can see what I am talking about ....
It is more annoying than anything else. Does anybody have a remedy for this ? (I know a Egg cover would help)

That's a wet one. That would drive me nuts. I'll bet someone has a fix for ya.
I'm thinking about upgrading mine, as I think it is the only thing on the egg that could be improved. -
Uep.. Take an itty bitty drill bit and carefully dripp a small hole along the edge near the bottom.
Or just have a beer and forget it.. -

That's what I've been doing!!!
I thought about the drill bit idea, just didn't know if it would compound the issue. I guess if the hole was placed at the bottom position the rain couldn't find its way into the hole. -
Not sure if you have seen this or not but here is some info on picking a Tel Tru thermometer.

Hope it helps,

Recomend you get a Tel Tru when you can. Info here on the Naked Whiz's site.

no, actually a hole at the bottom would mean it would even collect more water when hot and wet due to capillary action. Before I replaced my BGE thermometers with Tel-Trus I had that same problem. Using a Dremel I drilled a hole at 9:00 and 3:00 and blew out the water. After letting them sit in a hot sun for a couple days to dry thoroughly I filled the holes with a dab of silicone.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Strange, I have 4 and they are at least 4 years old and no trouble with with condensation. I wonder if they would replace yours?

That looks a leak more than condensation! :woohoo: I had the same thing with mine. Drilled a hole in the bottom to let it out. It was hard drilling because I think it's stainless steel. Or I had cheap drill bits. Be real careful as not to break the glass.

Same problem, went away with a drill.

When that happened to one of mine I just stood it face down in a sunny window for a week and the water was gone. I thinks it's caused by leaking, not condensation. I wonder if a bead of high temp silicone around the edge of the glass would stop it.

Yep, I think it may be a bit of a leak, maybe some condensation too ...... I think I will try the tiny drill hole first and explore the H.T. silcone idea if the leak persist.
Thanks for all the input. Tonights brisket wasn't hindered by the 'wet therm' at all!
