Ok,I've seen this topic come up a hundred times. The idea is to get the egg hot and then it will open. Here's my problem. My egg is currently 500 degrees and will not open. I cannot get it any hotter. I even tried a hair dryer to get enough air. The egg was about 800 degrees when I shut it down. That's the hottest I've ever had it. There is not enough lump left to get it over 500. I fear that I will need to get it to 800 again to open it. My gasket has long since been toast (or so I thought).

how long at 500? is the out side of the egg hot yet? it will take it a few minutes to heat the gasket and glue so it will give way.

It has not been too long. Hopefully some time at 500 will do it.

Looks like some time at 500 did the trick. I also gently worked a knife around and it popped right open!

I got a replacement gasket from RRP. But you live close enough to get a nomex from BGE. also talk to Bubba Tim. He uses a pumice stone to prep the egg. RD has them for 2 bucks.
