I am attempting my first overnight with my new DigiQ II.

I set the pit probe for 225 degrees.

The dome temp was 250 degrees.

Everything was fine.

I am paranoid so I went to check.

Dome temp is now at 310.

Food probe is giving sporadic readings from 212 to 375.

I re-adjust the probe (about 4 inches away from the butts. And I plug the plug and reinsert into the DigiQ II.

I keep the dome open for a few minutes to drop the temp and the DigiQ II returns to 225.

Hopefully, this fixes the problem.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

They said if the probe is not inserted all the way into the digiq, it gets false readings. You should be fine now.

    I hope so.

I also closed the vent on the blower fan to about 1/2.

    This should help also.

I will continue checking every 30 minutes until I go to bed.

I will likely be up frequently during the night checking.

opening the dome will cause more problems. it gives the fire a massive gulp of air. much more than it can get thru the lower vent.

shut the lid and don't open it again. set vents for 250 and wait. it will get there.

How long should I go before I cut off the DigiQ II and set vents manually?

I put the butts on a 225 grate and 250 dome at 7:00.

At 8:00 I was getting funny readings from the DigiQ II.
I made some adjustments and more adjustments at 8:30 and 9:00.

So the butts were at 310 dome for about 1 hour after about 1 hour at 250 dome.

I am checking every 30 minutes.

Yep, set the blower to 1/2, set the top to just a crack with daisy closed, set lid dome on, ramp on, temp hold.Only light 4 lumps, any more and you would get overshoots with the guru wilding trying to compensate. I put my butt on a v rack and hooked the temp probe to the v rack grid which is right at food level. Just make sure you have enough lump.

butts are forgiving, 310 won't do anything to it. at all...

i can;t give you any advice re the digiQ. just wanted to let you know that opening the lid doesn't cool the egg down (during a low and slow) it cools the thermometer. it DOES boost the fire short term. temps will rise a bit from the new O2...

    Thanks guys.

Plenty of lump. I cleaned it before this cook. I carefully placed and built a charcoal mound with fresh lump from a new bag. Filled up to the fire ring.

My 9:30 check saw the dome down to 260.

DigiQ II went from 242 to 225 (which is where I set it).

Now if it will stay there!!!!!!

I will continue checking every 30 minutes...

    10:00 Pit check.

    &^(%$%%&^&)(*%^&%

Pit temp reads 130 then flashes to 260.

    Dome back up to 290.

    I reinserted the probe.

Do I have a dub for a probe or is the DigiQ II off?

I hope the flames did not hit the wires? If so, you may have to order a new set of probes. I have had this happen to me before. If the fat catches on fire, it will melt your wires for sure.

That should not be a problem.

The probe is over the plate setter and the wire is at the edge protected by the plate setter.

I think I may get a new one as a back up.
