What would you have done with musty smelling lump?

Please be kind, I still think of myself as a newbie...

Thanks...

Anna....Newbie or not, I always do my best to be kind. ;) Remember, the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. ;)
As for the musty smelling lump....well...One of my "rules" in all aspects of food is....the Nose Knows. This applies to fish, chicken, beef, veggies, everything....including lump. If it smells musty, there is mold/mildew in the lump. My advice....get rid of it...or use it for a clean burn, but I wouldn't cook any food with it. Sure...people will argue...Oh...but the temps are XXX high....sorry. Not me. All those mildew particles are still burning off. Where? Into food in the same grill.
Like I would say with chicken, beef, fish, lump....WHEN IN DOUBT, THROW IT OUT!!!! It is not worth the risks of illness for a few saved dollars. Get rid of it.
Just my two cents! (Hope this helps you a bit! Happy cookin!
