I would like to know what size of fire ring is needed with the adjustable rig

The rigs are made to go with the size of BGE you have. Tom has it down to a science.

I have two different size fire rings the shorter one was purchased with the three tier grill rack that I absolutly hate

I also have the 3 tiered rig with shorter fire ring, but all it does is lower the food an inch down. Have not measured lately, but think 2 inch vs 3 inch or a little taller. Should not hurt anything.

Email Tom (tjv) and ask him, he is the one with the experience and product.

I tried to use it with the normal ring and it hits the temp gauge

The reason BGE Mother Ship sells the 3 tiered with the shorter fire ring is to avoid the problem. The short ring needs to be used with the BGE 3 tiered rack.

use can use both the 2 inch ring and standard ring with the rig. Only difference is the rig will sit lower. Do a couple cooks with both and see which fire ring set-up matches your cooking desires.

Feel free to email me if you like: ACGP, Inc.

I just realized this myself last week when I removing the dome for a gasket install, but the temp gauge on my Lrg is ajustable by just squeezing the tension breacket that holds it in place.
