Some new stuff (toyz) came in yesterday.
Was getting late so I will have something to do today. Just gave the CI grate a try
Not sure if it was a fluke or what, but the air flow was really changed up with this thing in. Seemed a little slower to get up to extreme high heat and the egg was really breathing strange. It would puff smoke out top and the a little bit out the bottom vent and then for a lack of better word it would belch a flame out the bottom vent. It was wild and was screaming flashback! I opened the dome with the ash tool standing as far back as I could. But no flame! I totally cleaned out all the lump and ash and replaced with new lump before this cook. Steaks were great.

Looks like a Fire Breathing Dragon. Steaks look good. Got replacement gasket for you.

Mine was doing that with a high heat cook the other day. I had put 2 planks on it and I think it blocked air flow and I used new lump that I think got packed too tight. I had some near flashbacks, some bottom vent fire action, and it took HOURS for it to cool down once I took off the planks (It turned nuclear without the planks blocking the heat). It was a fun night and the salmon tasted like my feet

New lump can get a little violent, particularly when you damp it down some.

I'm not sure I want salmon to taste like my feet :(

Did the ceramic grid make a lot of difference in the cook. I see the grill marks look great.
I have a medium with the old style grid and wish I could get marks like you did.
