Anybody tried the Magic Jack internet phone??

Yes, and is is only worth what you pay for.

What I mean is it's OK, but I am not ready to replace my home phone yet.

The quality is not great but hard to beat the price!

My friend here in FL loves his for wha is does. Now he only uses it for long distance calls. Still has his cell and portable home phone.

He gave me one but I have to buy a phone to use it with.

That's about the only input I can give you.

Isn't magic jack just voip, same as vontage?

I have comcast & last year they forced us to go 'digital' which is probably just voip also. I have been considering just using vontage and dumping comcast phone.

I have been using mine for a year now and LOVE it!! Say what you will. $19.99 a year is unbeatable. i use all of the extra features and they perform fine, IE: call waiting, voice mail, e-mail notification, etc, etc
If you feel better paying monthly then by all means keep supporting the Ma Bells'

Yes it is VOIP but Vonage is $25/mo vs. 20/yr. BIG difference. Magicjack IS the way to go.

I have been considering it. I got a call from someone in Florida last night using it and it sounded good, nice and clear.

I think I am going to give it a shot.
