Gap Between Top Dome and Bottom Rim

Since flamed my gasket last night, I noticed there is a good 1/4" gap between the top dome and bottom lip at the back of my BGE. The gap gets smaller and smaller as you circle around to the front and at the front there is no gap as that is here the two pieces meet. This is with NO gasket. Is this normal?

No 1/4" is a bit much..I would loosen the band some with the dome closed and level it some to close that large a gap.

Doesn't sound normal to me. But hey, who's to judge what's normal these days. Sounds like you have to pop the bands and reset top and bottom after to put on a new gasket. 1/4" is a lot.

Not sure. I loosened the rings to take the BGE apart and the dome settled flush. On my first gasket replacement I did not take the dome off so it might have shifted a bit. Now way to really tell I guess.

Anyway, I just replaced my gasket for the 2nd time in my first BGE week so this is the last straw. I used the white nomex one this time along with acetone to clean the rims and 3M 77 adhesive. The nomex gasket seemed wider than the grey one so I made sure the overhang was only on the outside. It is curing now and I will fire it up on Wed keeping the temp to below 400 per the BGE instructions. If this fails too soon I will go gasketless and just reposition my dome to account for the difference so I can get to cooking instead of all this work! Never had so much trouble with a grill before. There has to be a better solution than the current gasket system. My father-in-law really wants one but there is no way he is putting up with all this maintenance. :S
