Pimento leaves

Went to Kingston Jamaica during the Thanksgiving Holiday and while I was at Strawberry Beach in St. Mary's parrish, I happen to come across a Pamento tree. I grabbed as many leaves as I could and made it home safely to Florida. I placed then in the freezer because someone told me and when I wanted to use them, just to take them out, as needed. Now, do I let them dry before placing them onto the fire or just as is, straight from the freezer to the fire to smoke my Jerk chicken. Or, can I dry them and finely chop them up and use them to season with. Any suggestions?

it's the wood and the spice from the Pimento tree that you wanted.
Personally if you aren't 100% sure what that tree was subjected too I would throw them out.
Jamaica is not exactly noted for cleanliness. -
I understand you can smoke the leaves...kind of like using wood chips. Also, just wash the leaves...end of story. You have clean leaves.

Guess you never heard of stuff absorbed by the tree.
It's your life, but there is a reason why the Dept of Agriculture quarantines plant material coming from Jamaica.. -
ummmm....something to think about. Thanks for the perspective.
