High Temp Burn

When doing pizza with the plate setter legs down I find that after the cook my gasket is a little cooked on the inside. I want to do a legs down high temp burn to burn off some crud on the setter. To lower the setter in the egg so the heat won't be directed right at the gaskets, I was thinking of taking the fire ring out and putting the setter legs down on the fire box. It looks like a pretty snug fit. Given that the ceramic will expand when heated, will I have to be concerned about cracking the egg or setter? It is a large egg.

If it's a tight fit, yes,I would be concerned(although all the ceramic should expand together)For pizzas or other baking,I use the platesetter, legs up,then the grid with the pizza stone on top of the grid. This,to me,keeps the heat away from the gasket(just my opinion) I don't think that you can see it,but here's my set-up ;)

I, on the other hand FIRMLY believe that a plate setter with legs down, then a pizza stone directly on top and with NO egg feet, balls of foil, copper elbows, and certainly NO grill, in between the setter and stone works fine. I'm not kidding you guys, I've baked a pizza almost every 2 weeks for 8 years now so I think I know what I'm talking about - and I've NEVER burnt a pizza yet!

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree...
