How to use a drip pan on an XL ?

I have a plate setter, It leaves no room for a drip pan. I read to take out the fire ring put in the plate setter pout the fire ring back. Use the drip pan and grill above. It pur out my fire!!!!! I restarted the fire out the fire ring back where it belongs, plate setter on top. But can't use the drip pan. :huh:
