Gasket wear

Had my egg about a month now. Used it quite a bit. I was smoking some chicken the other day and I began to see a little smoke penetration toward the back of the egg at along the gasket. I don't notice it much but the egg was smokin like Cheech. It is not bad yet, but I figured it was a sign of things to come. Is this a warning sign my gasket is breaking down already?

What's the gasket look like? If it looks worn, maybe. If not, could be a dome alignment problem.

Do the dollar bill test and adjust the bands.

Gasket on my large looks like death warmed over.

I can still hold a good low and slow cook without problem so I am not going to replace it yet. I probably will before the cold sets in.

  • You can probably just adjust the dome and bands to seal it. We have a video on our website and youtube that shows us doing the dollar bill test and adjusting ..I think it's called " assembling the big green egg" or something like that ... again on our web site click "videos" and it's listed.

Might help if you provide the url.
  • I have been asked not to put links to my site since it's a commercial site but you can go to www.fredsmusicandbbq.com and click on "videos" on the top menu and you'll see them all.

For what it's worth, I found your utube videos about assembling the Egg very helpful. Thanks.
  • I'm glad you found the videos useful. Stay tuned I am working on a new "epic" video ... "replacing the gasket on my personal Large BGE " It will include some shocking footage! BGENEWGASKETINSTALL_0001.jpg
