Another Gasket Question

Well, I need to replace my second set of gaskets. I replaced the original one with another felt one. It worked for about 6 months. Now it's dust. I was going to use one of the fiberglass ones that folks were using for awhile. I think AZRP was making them available to us. Now I understand that there's a new factory approved material. My local BBQ's Galore doesn't carry them. Can we order them directly from the Mother Ship?

Thanks very much. I'll take pix and describe my attempt at replacing it.
  • My gasket came off with a 600º fire, it did not burn it came off in foot long strips. New EGG'R her.

As far as I know you have to get it from BGE directly. Mine was covered under warranty so I do not know the cost. I guess all EGG's soon will be using this type.

It is important to clean the surface's off, I used acetone. It is pretty tough to get the old gasket, glue, smoke and grease residue off. I would go the extra mile and spend the time to clean it well, you do not want to do it twice.

Go to Ace Hardware and get a small can of 3M Super 77 adhesive. The gasket does not have sticky tape. I sprayed it onto both the ceramic and the gasket. Let it set about a minute and start placing the gasket, do not stretch it, place it so the inside edge is flush with the inner edge of the Dome and Base.

Hope this help, any other questions just ask.

Thanks man. I have a goop remover that contains acetone, and it cleans pretty well. I'll go get me some of the extra sticking power from 3M Super 77 though. Normally I'd just let it go, but I'm burning all my lump, even after I close everything down.

IMHO..too much 'gasket envy' :) ..my large gasket has been fried forever...I ordered a nomex for it cuzz I was ordering something else from the mothership but have never taken the time to put it on..it's still in the original package from BGE...sure..I get a few whisps of smoke between the lid when the digiQ blower fires..but it looks cool and hasnt caused me one iota of cooking problems..I think they should make them without gaskets...

one of the stated original reasons for the gasket was to cushion the dome when shutting, FWIW.

I wasted a whole bunch of lump because even after shutting everything down last night, there was enough air getting into the coals that they wouldn't go out.

hmm...maybe there are degrees of 'fried'..but if I put the rain cap on mine and close down the bottom damper, there isn't enough airflow through the lump to keep it burning..it goes out as fast as it did when I bought it....
