Has anyone had a problem with the Dual Function Metal Top coming off the egg when you open it? IT happen to me last night and broke a tile on my floor as well as the handle shot off never to be found again.
Is it just me?

Some fit better than others but they all seem to fit better after they get gunked up a little.
Also if you put the metal top on the egg with the set screw towards the front it works better. If you place it towards the back and open the egg the vent rotates 180 degrees as you open the egg and the momentum will almost toss the top off as it shifts all the weight to the back. I hope this makes sence. I'm sure another will post a good photo.
Sorry to hear about your tile,

Not enough soot build up on it. I suggest 2-3 18 hour low and slows cooking pork butts, and it will tighten up. In the interim use a little foil wedged in between the top and the ceramic. Should get you by for a while. Try your best to find the handle as it comes in handy when trying to remove it while it''s hot.

Check out step #34. This is what Darian is talking about.

LOL, I have looked all over the back yard, the egg is on the third floor so taking into consideration the impact when it fell that handle could be 20 yards in any direction.
I wonder if I can buy another some place?
So far I have done a Boston butt, a whole chicken, Ribs, and 5 pounds of Chicken Parts, did I mention I got the egg on Saturday? Cooking Casdias right now -
 You have been busy. Don't see why you couldn't fashion a handle out of a cut up wire coat hanger. You could even get fancy with it and use a wooden thread spool inplace of the coil spring.
Keep cooking like that and besides good food you'll have that DFMT stuck on there real good. :woohoo: -
Check with your retailer, I bet they would have one laying around. It would be good customer service on their part since you will be accessorizing for quite some time.

Get about a foot of self-adhesive stove gasket and put it around the "neck" of the egg.

My problem isn't the adjustment getting changed it's the top flying off.
-
hmmm, have you tried this? Sounds interesting, thank you all.

Yeah, I had one egg that it was a real problem. Hasn't happened since I did that.
