I found this website when looking for information to post on my blog just by accident. Check it out. While 'sustainable' seems to be the new buzz word for the baby boomers it kind of reminds me of the earth day move in the 60's and 70['s for some reason.

and while I wasn't quite a hippy in the 60's but I did have a Earth Day Flag on the back of my jacket... :) Maybe all of you have seen this but after a few minutes of poking around I thought it worthy of putting out there for you all to see if you are interested.

If you dig into the site a little there is some VERY interesting information about cooking healthy (and yes that includes pork and beef) and other interesting 'normal' information. for instance, I found articles on grilling that had noting to do with sustainable anything...being from the midwest some of the factory farm issues they discuss are real unfortunately.

It's really pretty simple...buy free range chicken at the butcher and carry it home in a canvas or hemp reusable shopping bag and you are off and running. Peace out!

"Sustainable" is a buzzword for putting the government in charge of determining what is "sustainable" and what is not, then outlawing what is not. I was hearing this nearly 20 years ago while taking the coursework for my MA and it became clear that was the intent then, and it's only become moreso as it's been popularlized.

There are actually some sustainable farms that really do eliminate the use of any petro-fertilizers, etc. They also sell local only all in efforts to bypass the potentially very unhealthy industrial farming that uses more calories than it produces... I don't think these are gov't labels and based on what I read would really be "sustainable". Look at this farm for instance:

    Polyface Farms

On the other hand all the stuff labeled "organic" can still end up on a truck using more fuel than products using petrolium based fertilizers. SO - what to do and what selections do you honestly have. This is a pure USDA labelling thing run by marketers/lobbiests/etc..

You can read all about this stuff in "The Ominvores Dillema" by Michael Pollan. Very interesting read and brings forth at least one point of view. Quite eye-opening if you buy-in to this. It makes me think a bit...

    Peace/Love & Pork Butts...Jerry

In construction there is a widespread interest in sustainability. It has been a long time coming but has actually begun to take hold.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the government or regulation. It has everything to do with working smarter. It is a good thing.
