Hi all,
Did my first butt and will need to start pulling in an hour or so. Do you discard the 'bark' and top fat layer? Any tips are appreciated.

Do not discard the bark. That's where most of the flavor is. Excess fat, yes, scoop it out and toss. Shred all the meat and mix the bark up with everything else. If you have any left, by the next day, all that smokey, spicey flavor will have merged with the rest of the meat.

Yep, what gdenby said. I use two forks to pull it, but there have been threads here with other devices to pull pork...one was a "bear claw"-like thing. Pretty cool.

ayup..just smoked those friday night and pulled and 'bear clawed' em for dinner last night!.. only thing you gotta watch is those bear claws will shred your hands, fingers, whatever gets in the way! :side: :woohoo:

Understood....Probably wanna keep the beer count in single digits before slipping on the claws to keep the mount of cook-meat in the tray to a minimum

Rather...do not use the claws........ :laugh: .....staying sober is a term used & practiced only on highways...... :laugh:
