Every now and then I see a comment regarding advertisement rules. Are there any or is it being said in jest?

Thanks

Reference to sites or items is somewhat OK.

Out and out advertising will get one stomped on.

Several active folks on the forum have items they sell, all very good items. However, these folks VERY seldom (if at all) will promote their items here onthe forum.

If someone asks a specific question, personally, I will refer the person asking, to the specific site.

This topic is specifically addressed in 'Fourm Rules'.

I have searched but can't find the link for the rules. I don't have anything to sell but was just wondering if someone wanted to recommend a food brand, cookbook etc.

    We all do that everyday.

What isn't allowed is me advertising Wicked Good Charcoal, the BGE dealers advertising their products, or BBQ Bob advertising the Guru, or Chris advertising Dizzy Pig products. Not that we actually have too :)

Again, personally, something like that I don't see anything wrong.

One will often see specific recomendations. It is done all the time.

though, if someone said "who sells wicked good here?" i'm pretty sure you are ok if you answer "me'.

i think bobby-Q was a little afraid we were going to have another spate of "look what's on woot today! a portable stereo!" that we seemed to have about two, three months ago. i can't blame him for jumping the gun on poor RRP. hahaha

i think smoking guitar player maybe got smacked a little too hard. i've seen others ply their trade without getting whacked, so it just seemed a little unequal.

i don't have a dog in the fight, so i don't care. to me, advertising is out-and-out selling. i think if your signature had a link to your wicked good sales page (do you sell that way/), it would be fine.

but someone posting a 'sale', or who offers nothing but purely commercials for their stuff, is a bit of a bottom-feeder.

i think we police ourselves pretty well. if someone gets pushy, i'm pretty sure one or ten of us have the cojones to say "dude, knock it off, really". sometimes, though, it does look a bit like the "old boy network" gets a free pass, and the newbies need to prove themselves. i agree the newb should give before they get, but we all have varying tolerances. one guy thinks it's fine, and another might read it as blatant commercialism.

Good Lord, Pete, you're "busted" after all that malicious disregard of the forum rules! :woohoo:

I look at providing egghead shirts as a service to the egghead community. I do an occasional post when I have something new, which is usually at the request of a member. I do offer free food and a nights stay in the Hillsborough county Bed and Breakfast. I will also provide transportation.

Only if they are in North Carolina..

Most of us who retail items don't blatantly advertise them, but we do mention from time to time we sell items that are asked about. I don't see this as a problem.

This forum has been provided for you to ask and answer questions and exchange ideas, experiences, and "Tips and Tricks" with other BGE owners and we want you to enjoy your visit. Although intended primarily for issues specific to the BGE, other generic posts, which apply to the BGE, are certainly welcome. We do, however, have a few simple rules and guidelines where this forum is concerned. If you feel that someone's post violates the forum rules, contact the Moderator via E-mail and let him handle it.

    Rules:—Violating posts will be deleted.

    1. No profanity or lewd suggestive language.
An occasional "hell" or "damn" is not a problem. If you are uncertain as to the acceptability of a word or phrase, don't use it.

    2. No "flaming" posts.
"Respond" rather than "React". Treat others on the forum with respect. There is no reason whatsoever to insult others with rude, demeaning name calling, insinuations, or accusations. If you feel compelled to carry on a personal exchange with someone on the forum, please use E-mail.

    3. No advertising.
If a post requests information, it is acceptable to respond with addresses, phone numbers, or URL's that satisfy the request. Unsolicited advertising of products or home pages is not allowed.

    4. DO NOT use the forum as your "Cyber Soapbox".
This is not the place to air your views on matters unrelated to the purpose of the forum or to vent your anger or dissatisfaction with anyone on, or off, the forum.

    Guidelines:—For a more enjoyable experience.

    1. Before posting a new subject, try the archives.
This can save you a lot of time as many answers can be found in the Archives.

    2. Avoid "handles" or "nicknames" which can easily be confused with others.
This can be a very ticklish subject. Remember, the forum is a "faceless" medium and the only way others have to recognize you is through your "handle" or "nickname".

    3. Avoid using all CAPS when posting.
Many "internauts" consider this shouting and therefore rude. Caps should only be used for emphasis, like when you might raise your voice in conversation.
