I'll go get one. Can you wait a few minutes?
-
Of course?
I'm also curious to see how the new gasket holds up to high temps.
thanks -
The first one is of the MINI I gave my BIL. Notice how the gasket is pretty charred. Notice the dome as well.
After it cooled it welded the dome shut. I had to pry the dome loose. I scraped it off and cleaned with alchol and applied the new Nomex on Monday. Tuesday was Chicken at 350 dome. Wednesday was prok chops at 400. Thursday was full blown Trex strips steaks. Burried the thermo and Charred for 90 sec a side. Cooled to 400 and finished for 6 min a side. Perfect mid rare.
Sorry no pictures of the cooks but here is the photo I took this morning of the gasket.
I'm very impressed with the Nomex. -
Took these this AM as well. I haven't completed the dome yet. So this is just the base.
and a close up.

That is starting to look like the real deal and it is about time.Is that the new gasket that the mother ship has to cure the problem? This is the first mention that I have seen that the material is Nomex.
-
I am calling it Nomex because that is what others have called it. Not sure of the exact content of the gasket. I does appear to be a good solution. Very impressed so far.
-
Where do you get it Mike?
-
Wow, Mike--the inside of the egg is very clean!. Did you do a high-temp cleaning before you applied the new gasket?
Thanks for sharing the pics...I'll be asking our local BGE dealer if he can score some of those nomex gaskets for me. -
I got mine from the Mothership in ATL. I'm sure your local dealer will be able to order you one, if they don't have it already.
-
I try to keep it clean now. I have seen it bleed crud. See photo. I don't think I'm going to allow it to get really cruddy anymore. Too many wierd odors when temp gets a little high.
-
Tests so far have proven positive. I among others have tested it in various temp configurations.
Is it the be all/end all for the gasket problems? I doubt it; but it is a major step in solving the gasket problem.
Hammer -
The fact that is is made of Nomex has been mentioned in numerous threads.
Yes the mothership has it, and so do a lot; if not all the dealers. If your dealer doesn't have it, call the mothership.

Okay, the next question: Where does one get the Nomex gasket?
