Hey Gang - have had a great summer with my new BGE - only bad part is all the extra beer that seems to be consumed as people/neighbours "happen to Drop" over.[p]Doing my first Fresh turkey on Sunday - about 11 lbs or so - Should I use direct or in-direct - I have checked all the links from this forum and have seen I think both ways ??[p]Just looking for some experience opinions[p]Merci buckets[p]Canada John

John,[p]I've done both. If you have any interest in starting slow or keeping the temps low to increase smoked flavor, then I would go indirect. Else, it is a toss-up in my book. I always use a chicken stand (turkey was too big and I get double duty with the chicken) so there is little actual exposed surface if direct.[p]The biggest problem you will have is the scales on Monday morning when you learn that a 11 pound turkey can actually cause a 15 pound gain! ;-)[p]BillT

John,
Here's a great link that I used for my first turkey. Max is the authority IMO.

TheStormyDog, If this is your first bird on the egg, I suggest Max's method, as detailed a recipe as you can find. It's a winner with fantastic results. It gets my vote. T
