After some soaking in hot soapy water, follow d by a lot of elbow grease and barkeepers friend, I finally have a respectable smokeware cap again.

I used some PBW on my grates last month and the results were amazing.  I plan on degreasing them every 3 months from here on out.

From a search of the forum:
PBW (Powdered Brewery Wash) - basically a mixture of Oxyclean and TSP.  This stuff is used to clean the funk out of brewery equipment.
