what is the smallest pork shoulder that most of you on the forum would try for a low and slow? Just going to be 4 of us for dinner. Thanks!

I would go big. You are already doing all the work, you may as well have some leftovers - plenty of uses for it.

I did a 4 lb butt in my mini last week - it was magic!I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

I agree with @blasting. You will use the same amount of charcoal. Pulled pork freezes well. I am doing two butts tonight that total 19 pounds. Just the wife and I and she only eats half a sandwich at a timeNerk Ahia LBGE

@NewbeeMinimax and SoCalTim... i think i have my wife talked into a MM for Christmas. I said it would go well right next to the large. Thanks for the input guys. May just have to go for it since it freezes well

7 pounds. I buy the full size butts in the two pack. Never seen a full size butt smaller than that. Although I don't buy the smaller pieces found in some markets, others do and they report good results. Around here the small pieces cost about 3 times as much per pound so I can get a full size butt for the same price. Left over pulled pork freezes well so it seems a waste to buy the small pieces.Southeast Florida - LBGE
In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
We do the freeze thing at home as well. 4 of us eating will eat about a third of a 7-8 pound piece. A third goes in the fridge for sandwiches later that week and a third gets frozen for a meal later on. Sometimes it goes in mac-and-cheese, sometimes chili, sometimes nachos... lots of uses.EggMcMcc

You can take a big shoulder and cut it into smaller pieces.

@Grader07. you are welcome. Bought MM about 2 months ago. Still learning. As charcoal is very close to the grid I use inverted woo for most of my cooks. I hope to add pics soon. You will surely enjoy MM. I plan on getting XL by summer.Bucks County, PA

Go big or go home.
I used to do one at a time, I now do two, as far as left overs go, pulled pork is the best left over of them all for its ability to still taste great and have many options to use it for IMHO.Just bought an Egg? Here is what you get to look forward to now:
