Help, Big green egg mini max grill grate

just ordered the listed size on grill grate for my mini max and it doesn't look right and can't close my egg. Emailed em and the technician said take out my original grill and place the grates on but this still doesn't look right. Thinking the 11" round would fit better for the mini max. It sits on the felt and I still can't close it. Thoughts ?

@jasenice I'm going through the same thing right now as well.  Ordered it a week back and couldn't get the dome to close no matter how I placed the grate.  I placed them sideways as you have in your pic and cooked like that last night.  These things are cut so precise that you have about 1/32nd of an inch gap to get perfectly right for the dome to close properly.
I hadn't had time to mess with it too much, but was thinking about grinding down the top portion of it to get it to fit better.
Let me know if you come up with a fix.

You can tell yours is not shaped like the one pictured on the website. Not curved correctly. This is compared to grillgrate.com

I think it just appears that way in the pic.  The "top" side is sitting on the ring and the outside is sitting on the felt.  Making it appear to be more straight across that side.

  • @jasenice I have the same problem with my MiniMax Grill Grates.  Got them from the Dizzy Pig's store.  I may bring them back to the store this Saturday during their Brisket class to see if there's anything that can be done.

  • @JohnnyTarheel these are grillgrates, ordered it online and it's listed as the minimax and small size grate. It does say in the description as 14.5 when my cooking surface is 13.5  which I thought was odd. But this was the correct listing on the grillgrate.com site
  • @YEMTrey I just emailed them and waiting for a response tomorrow. They said they would accept a return it's just a hassle factor. I may get that 11" round one they have listed for kamado grills. Update ya as soon as I hear from them

  • @JohnnyTarheel @YEMTrey @Star_TrEGG sup guys got a reply, very good customer service from grillgrates I must say. The picture confirmed I was shipped the medium grate, they are fedex shipping me the correct grate at not cost to me, and also said to keep the one I have now for a larger grill in the future. Nothing more to say they are very helpful and followed up with a voicemail backing up the email and shortly followed up with a tracking number. =)
