Just got back from 1 thousand mile round trip camping trip in Zion Utah. Scoured this forum for securing and packing the egg for a long distance trip such as this.

Though I got some good general info .. nothing really satisfied me, so I went with the towel method.

I pulled the fire bowl, wrapped it in a towel and put it back in place.

Installed my KAB then reinstalled the fire ring , gently laying it on a towel.

Put the CI grate in, then wrapped the Plate setter in yet another towel.

Closed the dome, but not before putting a pair of gloves between the two halves of the egg.

I have an 'egg handler' installed on my egg, so I wheeled the egg onto the covered trailer and strapped it to the back
of the wall with some h/d straps ... the egg traveled really well

I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.
