Any Bass players on here?

My 14 year old plays guitar and banjo and he has been wanting to get a bass too so yesterday we went bass shopping. Picked up an Epiphone Thunderbird Pro-IV. He's been playing it since last night. Kid has a great ear so he is working through teaching himself some songs but his teacher will also get him on proper technique etc. 

Too late for advice on bass models really but any advice on getting started?

I've been playing since about that age. Took pics of my rig the other day, though about selling it all as a matter of fact. I just don't get around to playing it as much as i used to.

I never did learn sheet music on the bass, always picked things up by ear.

Congrats to your kid. Music can last a lifetime.

Tho' he has a teacher, and it might be awkward to introduce some else's technique, I'll suggest the Jack Casady tutorials available from Homespun music. He started out as a guitar player, also about 14. Was an early member of Jefferson Airplane as bass player. Played w. Jimi Hendrix on the original Voodoo Child jam. Clean and sober now, in his 70's, and still spry. Profoundly lyrical approach to the bass. Still gets in a groove, but then goes off into cello like melodic runs.
