new sauce to try; Bernalillo BBQ Sauce

Came across this sauce recipe from the Charbroil site, through my Pinterest page. Wonderered if anyone has tried it or something similar. I happen to have a bunch of Medjool dates from my last Sam's trip, so finding something to use them in got me interested in trying this sauce on my next Pulled Pork.
- Bernalillo BBQ Sauce
- 2-3 tablespoons canola oil
- 1 small red onion, finely chopped
- 3-4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1 cup tomato paste
- 12 Medjool dates, pitted and coarsely chopped
- 1 cup Hefeweizen Beer, plus additional to thin sauce as needed
- 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tablespoon ground mustard
- ½ tablespoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Kosher salt and fresh ground peppercorn to taste
