dome adjustment with Rutland gasket

I have never gotten my dome aligned to suit me after installing the Rutland gasket. I put the Rutland on the dome.
I'm wondering where the bottom band should be positioned since there is no gasket on the base?

First, kind of odd you installed it on the dome and not the base. More protected on the base. Anyway, just get your bands in parallel with each other and close to the rim. So, the base band up high and the dome band down low.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

Actually it is more protected on the dome . No dropped food or grease on it that way.
Gasket is bunched and is pretty thick.
I don't think I've got my band position right. Think my bottom band is to low and probably needs to be moved toward the upper edge . -

In order to match up the planes of your dome and base you will need to loosen the bolts on both bands, apply some serious pressure to the then loosened dome and base to match up. Retighten the bolts while making sure the dome doesn't get out of whack in the process.
PS I still am not a fan of applying the gasket to the dome only...but what do I know? LOLRe-gasketing America one yard at a time. -
