im sure this topic has been discussed on this forum before, but I'm relatively new and was just wondering.
I've heard people on the East Coast don't call tri-tip by that name. I know tri-tip originated on the west coast. What is this cut of meat called on the East Coast and down South and the Midwesr?

If your butcher doesn't recognize it by name...
"...your butcher should be able to special order it. Tell her it is the tensor fasciae latae muscle from the bottom sirloin, and it is number 185C in the NAMP book, the butcher's bible."

Okay. Well, consider it a friendly 'bump' then. Also, maybe the 185C NAMP book reference may be of use to someone out there.LG BGE, KJ Jr, Smokin Bros. Premier 36 and Pizza Party Bollore

I'm in GA and it is called Tri-Tip here. It is not all that common but we can find it at butchers and markets, and Costco seems to always have it. My local grocery store will have it intermittently but it is usually cut into "tri-tip steaks".Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

To the best of my limited knowledge, tri tip IS tri tip. That's how it is sold at my local Wegmans.

Good enough, I guess I was wrong, I always thought it was a west coast term. I remember when I lived in Idaho in the mid 80's we couldn't get it. Thanks for the reply'a.Central Valley CA One large egg One chocolate lab "Halle" two chiuahuas "Skittles and PeeWee"
