Flame Boss 100 experience?

I stopped by my dealer (bad idea I know) and he had a Flame Boss 100.  I have been considering a Digiq DX2.

Are the units comparable?  I like the look of the controller on the Flame Boss, but I have never heard it mentioned on these forums.  Seems Digiq or Stoker is all anyone uses.

Any experience would be appreciated.  Or funny comments.  I like those too.

Check with Griffin. I believe he's reviewed both models.

I believe StLcharcoal has info also.

I've had an eye on the flame boss, but have not committed to a controller yet.

I'm pretty sure @griffin has one.  Maybe he'll chime in.

@Durangler & @Mattman3969 you guys are correct.  Thanks for the tip.  I followed the link and read his review.  Sounds just like the Digiq DX2.  Looks very promising.  My only hesitation is folks don't seem to use them as much as the other units.  I wonder why?

@Ozzie_Isaac they are comparable. We sell the digiQ products now, but I plan on adding flameboss to our store as soon as the 200 model is available. It is wifi. Both look really user friendly. Both products are high quality. You may want to wait a bit if you can, to consider the wifi flameboss. Not sure of the availability date, we will be contacting them next week to investigate. I would say the flameboss is a bit more user friendly, but the digiQ dx is a bit more "solid state". Prolly can't miss here.

From what I have read, the Flame boss has a "open dome" sensing feature. That has me interested.

    @Ozzie_Isaac ...
After you put it through the trial runs & tests, report back on you humble opinion, please. The open dome sensing feature has me intrigued.
I don't know if the other controllers have that feature.
    Thanks.

I will give a review.  First run will be today.  When @Jeepster47 gets a chance to try it he will be able to compare to his DigiQ.

I've got the Flame Boss and have been real happy with it. It is truly a set it and forget it device. The open dome sensing is good ... It does not ramp up the fan like my Auber does.

I can verify the open dome sensor works.  btw, so far so good.  Its puffin smoke.  Gonna play for few hours before I throw the brisky on.

So far so good.  I'll post a more thorough review but the Flame Boss did its job.

Says something about a product when a guy can set it up in the dark for the first time ever at 10 at night.  Plugged it in, set the pit temp and it was off and running.

I figured out the temp overshoot.  My gasket has started to get hard and the aluminum foil around my probe cables held the lid open a smidge.

Once I removed the aluminum foil I was off to the races.

  • I use the Flame Boss 100. I've reviewed it. The details are on the site. It's definitely a nice addition.

Sorry that I wasn't around to help out. Been off the site since sometime last week.

You mentioned setting it up at 10 in the dark. Also says something when you can do it at 1am, in the dark, 3 sheets into the wind. Super simple to operate and the open dome feature works really well. Something the Auber was lacking like @fljoemon said.

Glad you are liking it and enjoying it.

@Griffin you nailed it.  Total noob to controllers was able to have a successful cook on the same day I bought it.  The first time I even took it out of the package was to install it.  3 minutes later it was up and running.  Heard about the FB100 at 1 from my delear, read your review around 3, bought it at 4 and then used it on a brisket at 10.  Its pretty idiot proof.

I will post a full review in the coming days.
