Corned beef packer brisket is on - pics

We have a neighborhood St. Pats party tonight, I offered to smoke the corned beef on the egg, rather than have the usual braised flats that are served. Picked up a 17 lb packer at Restaurant Depot ($3.64/lb). It actually looks like some of the flat was trimmed off, so it is mostly point.
At any rate, trimmed the fat, rubbed with a mix of black pepper and coriander, and put it on the egg about 8:15. Suing a mix of Hickory and Oak for the smoke. I am holding a steady 250 grate temp right now, plan to keep it there for a couple of hours, then raise the temp to about 325. I also plan to foil it around 175 IT and cook to 190 or so. FTC until we head to the party about 6:00. I think I have enough time.

Looks like a solid plan to me. I've never seen a whole corned packer before. Surely great meal ahead. Enjoy the festivities.I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.

Man that looks good!Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Seems to be cooking fast! 3-1/2 hours in and already at 165! Wondering if a corned brisket cooks faster than a normal one. I dialed the heat back, don't want to finish too soon. I really don't want to pull it until at least 3:30XLBGE, Small BGE, Homebrew and GuitarsRochester, NY

It hit the stall at 176 around 1:00. It is now finished and insulated in the cooler. I kept the temp below 300 (mostly around 275) and it was done in 7 hours - faster than I intended.
Now I am second guessing the prep, wondering if I should have soaked for a spell to remove some of the salt. It is history now, it will be carved at the neighbors place around 7:30. I'll post a pic if I can.XLBGE, Small BGE, Homebrew and GuitarsRochester, NY
