How do you make a great hot dog?

Boil it in a Dutch oven.I don't think we've had hot dogs since I got the egg, but I'd say, start with a high quality dog.

I don't any more. Extremely unhealthy! I used to use Pearl all beef franks (1/4 lb each) and split top rolls (buttered and grilled). Haven't had one in over a year.
Pulled pork, bomba, spicy brown mustard...
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I typically just grill them direct and then put whatever toppings I'm in the mood for. I have thrown some dogs on indirect as well while I was cooking other things and they turned out good, but I like to see some grill marks on them. It somewhat comes down to your preference as to how they are cooked. Some people like to split them open and burn em. I personally like to keep the temp a little lower and try to keep the outside in tact.I agree it is best to start out with a good dog. My usual go to is Nathan's famous.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Agree with @Carolina Q on the pulled pork and buttery split top buns. The split top buns alone make your hot dog 5x better IMHO. My go to dog is Nathan's 100% beef bigger than the bun. Here's a recent post I made:
