Rain cover - Daisy Wheel

I'm planning on cooking a turkey on my LBGE tomorrow (Sunday). Rain is forecast and my egg is out in the open. Any suggestions on some type of cobbled together cover over the daisy wheel? Or should I not be concerned about it and just use it normally?

If it wasn't for my BGE I'd have no use for my backyard...

Just use it normally. I never had any problem with rain. I cook under any weather: heavy snow, freezing rain, -40°...

I have seen people using chimney caps or foil...

  • Just stick it in the egg during shutdown to dry it. Should be fine.
  • Roof cap in the heating and air section at the big box hardware store works like a charm for me in Atlanta.

An egger in the local area uses a galvanized flue cap in a 6" diameter ... fits over the daisy wheel.  I took a peek in Menards just now, they had one in the low teens.  Seems cheaper to buy a SS cap.

Maybe an old style coat hanger and some HD tin foil will work to give you some ideas.

Have I told you yet that I'm falling in love with my new SS Vent Cap?

  • Go get the smokeware cap. Do it.

In the early days I used an inverted plastic pail with holes around the side.
Now, it's Smokeware cap, and a DIY rig consisting of leftover duct reducer, wire and cap from a milk can style popcorn container.

Like @Jeepster47 said I used this metal cap from Menard's for years before I bought my SmokeWare. This thing at the time was like $8. Just remember it gets skin searing hot even at low temperatures so handle with great care!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the ideas. As usual, some great ingenuity on display. Intend to buy a Smokeware cap but probably not until next year.
