So, any guesses where & when this picture was taken.  It only looks dark because cameras do funny things when you point them directly at the sun in auto-aperture auto-shutter mode.  I'll give you a hint, the day was Jun 21.  What part of the earth am I standing on, what time is it, and what direction am I looking?

It could qualify for a "DILLIGAf" post-but then again I'm hammered on a Sunday night.  No doubt someone above has hit the answer!

Those who guessed Alaska are on the right track, those who said looking north at midnight are correct.  It happens to be Finland, but the "where" I was looking for is, I am standing on the "Arctic Circle", looking North at Midnight on the summer solstice (aka June 21).  The sun is neither setting or rising but skimming the horizon.  From a solar system perspective, I am standing on top of the planet earth.

@Zmokin‌ That's a pretty cool experience to have had! I'm standing on top of the planet too, but not from a solar system perspective :). That background turned a cool photo into an awesome photo! =D>

I would love to do the winter solstice on the Antarctic Circle as well, but I doubt that will happen.  I was just lucky enough that I was sent to Oulu Finland for a 2 week business trip in late June.  When I realized the arctic circle was like 240 kilometers away and Friday night was the solstice, I was able to convince my co-workers we had to drive there.  I will say it is kinda weird, to be sitting outside at a bar at 2 AM with it still light out and wondering when you should go back to the hotel to get some sleep before work the next day.  BTW, the Finnish love to drink.
