A Walk On The Lighter Side

After a weekend of beef and pork I decided the family might try something new on the lighter side. This was my first attempt at Turkey Burgers. I started with a little research on the boards to find out the best way to prepare these burgers without making them taste like a styrofoam puck.

I decided to move forward with the ground turkey mixed with an egg and bread for a binder. Also used worcesteshire, teriyaki, chopped onions and mushrooms. The mixture ended up being a terrible sticky mess and created an even bigger mess with the burger shaper I used to make the patties. There was no way these were going to work on the grill in this shape and have any chance of staying together during the cook. Picked up a little nugget of knowledge on the boards about freezing the burgers before placing on the grill. Into the freezer with this mess and was hoping for the best.
Took the sadly shaped turkey burger patties out of the freezer about an hour before placing on the Egg.

Heated the egg up between 400 and 425 at the normal height. Each side cooked around 8 or 9 minutes until reaching an internal temp of 165.

I was surprised on how well these turned out and the family was also happy with the outcome. We also went with some multi grain mini sandwich buns as to not overwhelm the turkey burger with a bulky bun. Decided to go with some grilled corn on the cob to finish off the meal. We will definitely be going with these again in the future but will need to figure out something to add a little more spice to them.

Felt bad for the egg with such a healthy dinner tonight and sneaked on some hot Italian Sausages for lunches this week.
