Drip Pans - Finally found 'em (for the foil challenged)

Hey all.  BJ's Wholesale used to sell the perfect drip pans. Could fit 2 on the XL and 1 for the Large.  They stopped carrying them and I had to start foiling pans.  Ok, I'm stupid, because no matter how much foil I used grease and gunk got to the pan through the foil.  After a few hours of searching, I found them.  Please note, these are "1.9 In Deep, 12 In Long and 10 In Wide at top. Bottom dimensions are 10 3/4 long by 9 1/4 wide", not what the initial description says "Product Dimensions: 1.9 x 1 x 1 inches".

Shipped free with Prime, $32.50 box of 100 pans.

For those of you who are foil challenged like me.

The only thing better than finding the perfect thing is when that thing is deeply discounted!!!

The Costco here in Cumming didn't have them.  I tried there before my extensive internet search.

I guess we get them here in Canada to keep us happing for not getting any Brisket - asked the butcher tonight and he said they never have it, even though he gets asked all the time for it.

Excuse me, but I have to ask...why do you use a drip pan in the first place? Do you salvage the juices or baste your meat or put juice or water in your pan? Long ago I quit using drip pans as I didn't see the need or reason for the cost. Now I will admit I wrap my PS with a single sheet of heavy duty foil and the grease seems to burn off, run off into the fire or whatever, but has never caught on fire. Maybe I'm lucky? Then after the cook and the egg has cooled down the foil peels off with ease and that white PS face smiles through at me!

Moisture physics are absent in my egg.  I've never had anything dry (low and slow) with full drip pans which I pretty much just use water.  I did a packer recently and just let the drip pan dry out.  First packer that just wasn't as good as the others.  I could be superstitious, or just plain stupid (as i highlighted above with my foil story) but I gotta go with what has been working for me.  By the way RRP, yep, that's one of your gaskets!  My neighbor who put yours on a few weeks ago says he doesn't like it.  His reason was that his settings aren't the same, to which he said his settings are more closed now than before.  He smiled and said, must have been awful drafty in there before!

Like a proud poppa I recognized that gasket! LOL. BTW today I shipped 14 more of them. I'm not sure why your neighbor doesn't like his...personally I like a tight seal that aids in the temperature control and then the great fire snuffing after the cook. To each his own!

He was messing with me!  He loves it.  By saying it's more closed now during the cook means less drafty, less fuel used, etc. He gets it my friend.

    @danv23‌ nice looking gasket! ;-).
Edit: Danny I see a little black on the impregnated gasket is that food that spilled over? Or did you use Rutland vs Permatex Ultra Copper? Just curious. Looks great Danny!

That is actually an airgap in the back.  I was wondering of someone was going to pick up on that.  I've been lazy and never got around to putting the Permatex on the lid right there which will seal it.  I never could get that sucker to close right after numerous adjustments, and I planned on ditching that squat dome and buying a new one so I can get an AR.  If the new domes weren't $250 I'd already have replaced it.

I can't tell from your picture but I've seen similar pans and they had slits in the bottom. Do those?

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

@danv23 - I have bought these from BJ's in the past. I still have more than half of the 30 pack remaining. There are the only ones that fit the XL perfectly. I am like you, I cant seem to make the HD foil wrapped pan stay free from grease and gunk.

Do you know if this is ALL BJ's? I have to check to see if my store stopped carrying them too.

Is it because you are using 2 pieces and they are normal kitchen variety foil? I have one of those huge 24" x 1,000 feet rolls of HD Reynolds foil that I have had for years. Places like SAMS sells them. The initial cost may sound big, but 1,000 feet is a lot of foil for years of use!

Not a "seam to be seen" LOL

@RRP - maybe thats my problem. I do have one of those larger rolls of HD foil thats stays in my cart. I just have to change my wrapping method i guess.

I find that kind of funny since the market locally that carries brisket all the time gets their briskets from Canada.

Thanks for the find. I always feel like it's the one thing I forget to buy from the store right before a low & slow. That 100 pack will keep me for a few years!
