Silicone seal around bottom vent flaking off

Noticed just now when adjusting my vent that the silicone is flaking off.  Is this just a normal high temp silicone?

    I have the same problem on my two year old egg. I did a search and from what I found, I picked up a tube of Permatex clear rev silicone adhesive sealant at an auto parts store. Picked up a tube of Permatex ultra copper and a Rutland gasket from RRP and may attempt to do both today as it's almost 49* after a week of below zero weather. I am definitely using more lump than before.
