Purchased a 8 lb choice flat from sams club today. sell by date of 1-24. the plan is to cook for super bowl. should I freeze? should I have waited to purchase? planning on using mickey's coffee rub. this will be my second brisket attempt.

Freeze it! I have one on right now that we got back in August when we bought our 1/2 a beef.

I don't know...I personally would probably not freeze it. Sell by date doesn't mean it's no longer good so I think you'll be fine.I'd like to see what others say...Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ....

how is it packaged? i am assuming shrink wrap and foam tray. if that is so freeze it, if it is in a cyro pack let it ride.
